ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky expressed disbelief over the Ravens’ decision to limit Derrick Henry’s involvement, describing it as “shocking” and “unacceptable.”
This season, Henry has had 49 carries, totaling 284 yards and 10 touchdowns. After discussing with a statistician, Orlovsky realized that the Ravens had consistently run the ball during the first and second downs, which struck him as very surprising. “A month into the season, the Baltimore Ravens, despite Derrick Henry, are ranked 32nd in offensive performance in the NFL. It’s perplexing—they use multiple running backs but still manage to end up so low,” he noted.
Currently, Henry is wrapping up a solid 2024 season with a career-high of 16 touchdowns and 1,921 rushing yards from 325 carries. However, during a recent game against the Chiefs, he only managed eight carries, the lowest he’s seen since 2018. Henry acknowledged that he needs to find ways to make impactful plays.
When asked about his current approach, he said, “I’m focusing on seizing opportunities. I don’t want to dwell too much on it. I just have to try and make something happen while I’m in the game.” He also added, “Bring it on. I have a positive outlook. We’re 1-3, and no one else will do it for us. We need to put in the effort.”
Looking ahead, Baltimore has a chance to improve its 1-3 record when they face another struggling team, the Texans, also sitting at 1-3 in week five.
