Dancers with Flipping Hair Greet Trump in UAE. Details on the Cultural Show

Trump Visits UAE with Cultural Performance

On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump touched down in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) following his stop in Qatar during his Middle East journey. He received a warm welcome from President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi, where he was treated to a cultural display.

Upon his arrival at the Qasr Al Watan, the presidential palace, Trump witnessed a performance that included the traditional Al Ayala, a significant cultural expression in the UAE. A video posted by White House aide Margo Martin on X featured Trump observing a dancer as she flipped her hair in rhythm with drums and chants. Notably, the scene also showed several participants handling sword-like props during their performance.

“The welcome ceremony in the United Arab Emirates continues!” Martin remarked in her post, which garnered considerable attention online.

The shared video amassed over 5.3 million views, with many viewers curious about the cultural aspects of the performance. Questions arose in the comments, such as inquiries about the significance of hair tossing by a performer.

As per the United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Al Aiyara is characterized by recited poetry, drumming, and dance, often dramatizing battle scenes. Performers, including a young girl in traditional attire, swing her long hair while men rhythmically confront each other with bamboo sticks as a representation of spears and swords.

These lively dances are typically featured at weddings and celebrations across Oman and the UAE, showcasing talents from various backgrounds and ages. Leading performers often inherit their roles, with responsibilities to mentor others. Al-Ayyala embraces participants of all ages, genders, and social standings.
