Danica Patrick Reflects on Breakup with Aaron Rodgers
Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick opened up about her past relationship with NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers, particularly discussing the emotional toll of their breakup in 2020. When asked about her most painful experience, she described the end of the relationship as sudden. “It felt like my life,” she said. Living with someone creates a deep connection, and when that dissolves, it can be really difficult. She also mentioned that the relationship had elements of emotional abuse.
Patrick noted that, while the experience was painful, it ultimately led to self-discovery. “He left a bloody mark,” she reflected, but added that this hardship helped her realize the importance of self-care and showing up for herself.
The couple first met at the 2012 ESPY Awards and confirmed their relationship publicly in January 2018. At that time, Patrick expressed her support for Rodgers’ career, saying, “I told him a long time ago that I’d take him into root as a player.” However, she humorously revised that sentiment, suggesting her allegiance might now extend to the whole team.
As their relationship progressed, Patrick joked about marriage in a podcast, playfully suggesting that she would marry him “tomorrow.” Despite the fun banter, she acknowledged that dating someone under public scrutiny had its own challenges, as Rodgers commented on the difficulties of being in a relationship that everyone was watching.
By July 2020, the couple confirmed their breakup. Afterward, Patrick took part in the National Geographic series “Running with Bear Grylls,” where she reflected on what she learned about herself through the experience. “I think we learn the most about ourselves through relationships,” she said, recognizing that heartbreak can drive profound self-discovery.
Despite experiencing pain, she expressed a sense of newfound happiness, noting that her heart has grown in unexpected ways since the end of their relationship.
