Daniel Day-Lewis makes unexpected return to acting 7 years after retiring

Daniel Day-Lewis was spotted returning to a movie set this week, marking his shocking return to acting.

The Oscar winner, 67, was photographed looking barely recognizable on Sunday as he rode his motorbike through the streets of Manchester, England, with actor Sean Bean on the back.

Day-Lewis wore an olive green bomber jacket, black pants, brown boots and black gloves in the scene, which was filmed for a new movie called Evelyn.

He also wore a white safety helmet, gold-colored glasses and a well-trimmed gray beard, which contrasted with the clean-shaven look he sported at recent Hollywood events.

A representative for Day-Lewis did not immediately respond to a request for comment on whether the project marks an official return to acting for Day-Lewis.

According to local British media“Avelyn,” in which Bean, 65, plays a former soldier, is set in the 1980s.

Not much information is known about Day-Lewis' role. This movie is not yet listed on his IMDB profile.

In November 2017, the award-winning actor said his decision to retire came somewhat abruptly.

“[I] “I never thought I'd quit acting,” he confessed to W magazine during the thought process before making what was supposed to be his final film, Phantom Thread.

“I know that [director] pole [Thomas Anderson] And we laughed a lot before making the movie. And we both stopped laughing, overwhelmed with sadness. ”

Day-Lewis added that he had no intention of watching it because he felt he was ready to move on from the project.

“Not wanting to watch movies has to do with my decision to stop working as an actor,” he explained.

“But that's not why the sadness lingers. It happened while we were telling the story, but we don't really know why it happened.”

Despite taking some time off from acting, Page Six exclusively reported in January 2018 that Day-Lewis wasn't done with Hollywood yet.

Sources exclusively told us at the time that the “Lincoln” star was in meetings about a “producing project,” with one source saying, “He's trying to help his friend get the film financed and produced. ''.

It's unclear if “Avelyn” is one of those projects.
