Daniel Jones has ‘zeroed’ in on top choice for next team with decision looming

Daniel Jones is closing in on his next team.

The former Giants quarterback is focused on the next team's “strong” selection and plans to “tell the team tomorrow.” According to NFL Insider Josina Anderson.

The source also said the Raiders are interested in Jones following the injury to starter Gardner Minshew, but it's unclear whether he has shown any signs of retaliation.

As many as 10 teams contacted Jones after he left the Giants last week. Reported by FOX Sports' Jay Glazer.

Jones is believed to be aiming for the playoffs, with ESPN's Adam Schefter specifically mentioning the Ravens and Vikings as “the two teams most likely to acquire” the former Giants QB.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport also pointed out Monday that the Raiders are a possible destination for Jones due to Minshew's injury.

The Raiders would give Jones a chance to potentially return to the starting role right away, but the team is far from a playoff contender at 2-9 and could dissuade him from heading to Sin City.

The Ravens and Vikings are both on the path to the postseason, but Jones will likely go to either team and serve as a backup.

The prospect of Jones going to Minnesota certainly raises the possibility that the Vikings will end up living in the home of two former New York quarterbacks, with Sam Darnold, who was waived by the Jets in 2021, joining J. – J. McCarthy is the starting QB there after a struggling season. End the injury.

Vikings manager Kevin O'Connell gushed about Jones when speaking to reporters Tuesday, saying he has “a tremendous amount of respect” for the Giants' 2019 No. 6 overall pick.

“I got to know him through the draft process many years ago,” he said. “I think there's probably a lot of interest in him from around the league now that he's a free agent. Daniel is going to make the best decisions for himself for the rest of his career. I'm sure he's in that process right now. I think I'm working on it. But I can't get too hung up on the short term or the long term. All I can say is that I've been a fan of Daniel for a long time and wherever he goes next, it's him. I hope it will be a good opportunity for us.”
