Daniel Jones speaks out following tough injury

Daniel Jones Says Farewell

Daniel Jones is stepping away for the time being.

The Colts quarterback suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during Sunday’s game against the Jaguars, marking a tough end to his season. It’s a disappointing conclusion after he helped lead the team to a solid 8-5 record.

In an emotional post on social media, Jones expressed his gratitude toward the organization, teammates, coaches, and fans. He shared several photos from the season as well.

“I really appreciate the support from everyone,” Jones wrote, noting how honored he felt to wear the Colts’ colors. “Ending the season like this is tough, of course. I’ll miss being on the field with my guys, but I’ll be cheering them on.”

So, one has to wonder, did he play his last snaps for the Colts? Unless, perhaps, you believe that 44-year-old Philip Rivers is the team’s future. After a challenging experience with the Giants and a brief time with the Vikings’ practice squad, Jones signed a one-year, $14 million deal with the Colts before this season.

He earned the starting quarterback role over Anthony Richardson and ended the season with impressive stats: 3,109 passing yards and 19 touchdowns, all under head coach Shane Steichen’s guidance.

Jones, at 28, had set himself up for a lucrative future—either with the Colts or another team. However, with the injury expected to take about nine months for a full recovery, his hopes for next season seem uncertain.

This injury adds another layer to his tumultuous tenure with the Giants, as he faced a demotion to fourth string before requesting his release last year.

To fill the gap, the Colts are bringing Rivers out of retirement, hoping to salvage what was once a promising season.

Meanwhile, Richardson is dealing with his own struggles, sidelined with a fractured orbital bone from an unusual pregame incident. This, coupled with his inconsistency, raises questions about his position within the franchise.
