DANIEL MCCARTHY: Protect Kids From Transgender Issues

Tragic Event and Name Change

Before becoming Robin, Westman was known as Robert. The shift in identity took place following the tragic incident at Announcement Catholic School in Minneapolis, where two children were killed and more were injured. Robert’s mother consented to the name change, but it seems that the psychological struggles of his teenage years didn’t fade away.

Ongoing Debates

Discussions around transgenderism, mental health, and violence have long been contentious. Earlier this year, a group called “Gijian” captured attention due to its involvement in several murders, including the January death of U.S. Border Patrol agent David Christopher Malland.

Violent imagery has started to find a place in the conversations about transgender politics.

Public Reactions

The June 19 issue of Eugene Weekly showcased a trans individual holding an AR-15-style rifle, prompting me to wonder about the message being sent. This occurred in a state where Westman later opened fire on school children, coinciding with Democrat Governor Peggy Flanagan’s earlier appearance promoting a campaign titled “Protecting the Trans Children.”

It’s hard to argue that Westman lacked support, but what about the victims of violence?

Contradictions in Liberal Support

Interestingly, even those who typically advocate for transgender rights may overlook important considerations. The drive to defend anyone asserting a transgender identity can sometimes overlook the complexities of identity and the consequences of reckless actions.

All children deserve safeguarding, including protection from adults who may impulsively affirm their beliefs about minors’ identities. The current climate presents numerous dangers, made worse by accepting political radicalism out of a sense of politeness.

Unexpected Discoveries

Just before Westman’s violent act, I stumbled upon a Facebook discussion about Florida school districts ending teacher contracts that allowed for the use of “preferred” names, extending to gender changes. I was shocked; this was shared by scholars I thought to be relatively moderate.

To me, calling William “Billy” is quite different from calling him “Barbara.” In fact, Florida’s regulations are quite liberal, permitting name changes only with explicit parental consent.

The teacher in question seemed to have crossed boundaries that should be reserved for parents. Minors are not equipped to make the most significant decisions regarding their lives without parental guidance.

Concerns about Authority

Even scholars who advocate for public school teachers typically argue that government influence should be limited. Yet, in this case, it appears they believe state officials should hold more power than parents, which feels fundamentally wrong.

Encouraging a child to adopt a new gender identity seems like an intrusive act, akin to leading them in a religious direction.

If those on the left encourage protection against religious coercion, can we justify state involvement in determining gender for children?

Moreover, if a teacher can claim merely to be guiding a child in their identity journey, it could lead to grooming behaviors.

Overarching Concerns

I wasn’t fully prepared for how deeply these radical ideas had seeped into mainstream liberal thinking. What struck me most was that some scholars attempted to frame extreme concepts, like calling minors by their chosen names, as innocuous.

It’s evident that every state should consider laws similar to Florida’s, protecting parental rights as a first step toward safeguarding children. Parents must remain vigilant—not only looking out for signs of deeper issues with their teenagers but also against the potential influence of adults contributing to emotional crises.
