Daniel Penny may receive congressional honor thanks to Rep. Eli Crane

Arizona Republican Rep. Eli Crane introduced a resolution Friday to award the Congressional Gold Medal to Daniel Penny. The medal is Congress' highest civilian honor.

Penney is currently on trial in the May 2023 death of 30-year-old Jordan Neely after he allegedly threatened a passerby on a New York City subway. Neely, who suffered from schizophrenia, allegedly threatened passengers and behaved erratically, leading to charges against him. To retrain him in a chokehold.

“The courageous actions of decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran Daniel Penny in response to a threat to his community went beyond the call of duty for a civilian.”

As of this writing, the jury deadlocked on the manslaughter charge against Penny, which was later dropped. The jury will continue deliberating on the lesser charge.

“Daniel Penny's actions exemplify what it means to stand up to the grain to do the right thing in a world where moral baseness is rewarded.” Crane said “I am extremely proud to introduce this resolution honoring his heroism and awarding him the Congressional Gold Medal,” he said in a Friday post on X.

The resolution not only praises Penny's actions, but also criticizes the Biden administration and various Democratic policies that have created rampant crime in American cities.

“During President Biden's term, local governments in various cities and states failed to adequately protect residents and their property from violent criminals,” the resolution states. read.

“The courageous actions taken by decorated U.S. Marine Corps veteran Daniel Penny in response to a threat to his community went beyond the call of duty for a civilian,” the resolution continued.

The resolution called Penny a hero to be commemorated, regardless of the pending verdict.

“It is the sense of Congress that Daniel Penny, with the integrity and honor that is characteristic of his character and honorable service in the United States Marine Corps, intervened to protect women and children from someone who threatened to kill them.” An innocent bystander, he is a hero,” the resolution reads.
