Daniel Ricciardo seething following Lance Stroll incident at F1 Chinese Grand Prix

Daniel Ricciardo’s Chinese Grand Prix came to an early end on Sunday after a restart accident left his car with extensive floor damage. As the grid returned to the start/finish line to take the green flag, Fernando Alonso’s lock-up caused a chain reaction behind him, eventually leading to fellow Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll crashing into Ricciardo’s RB01. I ended up hitting the rear.

The contact caused the car behind Ricardo to become airborne for a moment before crashing back to earth. Ricciardo tried to advance further, but the damage was too great and he was forced to retire.

Immediately after the incident, Stroll alerted his team that an “idiot” had braked in front of him. “This idiot just slammed on the brakes. Check the wing for damage,” Stroll said.

When shown the footage after the race, Ricciardo did not hesitate.Talk to a French dealer Canal+the driver’s heart rate increased again.

“Is he telling me I’m wrong? It’s okay, I was starting to calm down, but now it’s making me angry,” Ricardo began incredulously.

“I was watching him in the car and he wasn’t even looking at me,” the Australian driver continued. “As we started to brake, his head started looking into the corner. And then he started accelerating and coming off the brakes and came right under me.

“That makes me angry.”

As you can see in the clip above, Stroll is indeed looking towards the corner as the chain reaction begins in front of him. In this clip: F1At exactly the 5 second mark, you can see Stroll turn his head to the right. Chaos began a few meters in front of him.

This is a still image taken from that moment, and you can see Stroll’s helmet pointing to the right.

Of course, this is just a snapshot in time, but watching this and hearing Stroll’s comments, you can certainly understand Ricardo’s double frustration.

And it’s also understandable that Ricardo is unhappy with these comments, given the following facts: Stroll was penalized for causing the collision..Race officials Decided Stroll said: “I should have predicted the pace of the cars in front of me, especially car No. 3, and prepared to brake accordingly.”

If Stroll had done so, the collision could have been avoided. “Therefore, car No. 18 is primarily responsible for the collision that ultimately forced No. 3 to retire from the race.”

Making matters worse for the Australian driver is the fact that he too was hit. 3 grid penalty, for overtaking Nico Hulkenberg under safety car conditions. Unable to serve his penalty in this race due to his retirement, Ricciardo will bring it to South Beach at the Miami Grand Prix two weeks later.

“I started to recover quite a bit during the stint before the safety car, but during the restart I took a pretty big impact and the car was damaged. I wasn’t actually driving an F1 car, so I decided to retire. It’s very frustrating,” Ricciardo added in his team’s post-race report. “I was looking in his plane and he didn’t seem to be looking at me, it looked like his helmet was looking at the apex. You never know what’s going to happen later in the race, but we… I think I was in a good position.

“It’s frustrating when other people ruin it for you and that’s where the disappointment comes because today we had a chance and we missed it.”
