Daniel Fishel Takes on New Challenge Post-Cancer Diagnosis
Daniel Fishel’s recent breast cancer diagnosis has led her to step outside her comfort zone, resulting in her participation in this season’s Dancing with the Stars.
In an interview, she mentioned that after completing her cancer treatment, she realized she wanted to embrace life’s joys. It was an epiphany, really.
Reflecting on her journey, the former star of “Boy Meets World” shared that she left the show under difficult circumstances, feeling inadequate at the time.
“As soon as I finished my cancer treatment, I thought to myself…” she started, clearly still processing the experience.
She expressed commitment to her family and work, noting how life’s demands don’t stop. “When they asked me to do this, I thought, ‘This is the perfect way to close it out,’” the 44-year-old actress said.
In August 2024, she revealed her breast cancer diagnosis, sharing it on her podcast, where she hosts with former co-stars Will Friedle and Rider Strong. “They were the first people I told,” she explained, recalling how she broke the news.
Firstly, she was diagnosed with DCIS, a type of breast cancer, and her journey hasn’t been easy. “I want to share something with our listeners,” she mentioned during the podcast.
Fishel elaborated on her condition, saying, “It’s quite serious, I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with microinvasion. I’m facing surgery soon and might need additional treatments.”
Initially contemplating a double mastectomy, doctors later recommended other options as her cancer was caught early. They suggested a laparotomy, indicating it would help her return to normalcy faster.
“I felt healthy, looked healthy. But then, during a mammogram, they found something suspicious. The results were really unexpected,” she reflected on the shocking revelation.
Undergoing 20 rounds of chemotherapy was tough. She admitted, “It hurt, even just waking up some days.”
A year later, she is preparing to compete alongside Pasha Pashkov in the 34th season of Dancing with the Stars, which kicks off on September 16th.
Other notable contestants this season include Hilaria Baldwin, Dylan Efron, influencer Alix Earle, and Whitney Leavitt and Jen Affleck from “The Mormon Wife.”
