Actor Darius McCrary, known from “Family Matters,” was arrested near the U.S.-Mexico border in California. According to records, he was taken into custody by U.S. Border Patrol on October 5 and is currently being held in a San Diego jail. He faces felony charges and isn’t eligible for bail, being classified as a fugitive.
McCrary’s attorney, Ann Barlow, commented that he was arrested while working on a project aimed at building homes for the homeless in Tijuana. He was reportedly unaware of a felony warrant stemming from a failure to appear in court. This failure was linked to an ongoing child support issue, with Oakland County notifying him just three days prior to the court date. Unfortunately, McCrary was dealing with COVID-19 at the time and didn’t check his PO Box until after the court date had passed.
His initial court appearance is set for October 15. McCrary has had past legal troubles, including a divorce from his ex-wife, Tammy Browner, in 2017, who cited concerns for their child’s safety. By 2019, Browner was awarded full legal and physical custody.
He was ordered to complete substance abuse intervention programs and to pay $1,366 a month in child support. There were serious allegations made by Browner, including claims of dangerous incidents involving their daughter when she was just an infant.
In response to the claims, McCrary has denied all allegations, insisting he would never harm a child. The situation remains contentious, with a lot of unresolved issues hanging over his head.
