Darius Rucker has officially shared the news of his engagement, which he had kept under wraps until now.
The 59-year-old country star, known for hits like “Wagon Wheel,” revealed his engagement to Emily Diehl through a joint Instagram post on Wednesday.
In the heartfelt caption, he expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you for showing me a level of happiness I never knew existed. The day I met you, I knew I never wanted to go on without you. Now I don’t have to.”
The accompanying black-and-white photo captures Rucker down on one knee, with Diehl looking down at him, beaming with joy.
Diehl opted for a casual look, donning a black sweater and sporting her hair in a ponytail.
Fans quickly flooded the comments with warm wishes, with one remarking, “It’s great that you two have found happiness. It’s been really tough lately. Congratulations!” Another echoed the sentiment: “So happy for you both.”
One fan celebrated their connection, saying, “So many congratulations! There’s nothing better than having someone who truly supports you and shares real love!”
Another shared a snapshot of the couple in a tender embrace, with Rucker kissing Diehl’s cheek as she smiled brightly for the camera.
Diehl also took to her Instagram Story to acknowledge the engagement, marking a significant moment in her relationship with the former frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish. She mentioned, “I never intended to keep this part of my life away from you all for this long, but somewhere in the process of loving him, I realized how sacred love is to me. And all I wanted to do was protect it. Now I’m glad I don’t have to spend time Photoshopping all his pictures.”
Rucker hinted at their romance earlier by posting a selfie with Diehl during a trip to Las Vegas, which he captioned, “@spherevegas with my love and my boys and the Wizard of Oz. 1000/10!!!!!”
Previously, Rucker was married to Beth Leonard for about 20 years, from 2000 to 2020. Together, they have two children: Daniella, who is 24, and Jack, who is 20. Leonard also has a daughter, Carolyn, 30, from a previous relationship.
Despite the end of their marriage, Rucker has spoken about maintaining a close friendship with Leonard, stating in a recent interview with People magazine, “It hurts and I feel like I’m a failure. But we’re still a family. One piece of paper doesn’t change that. We’re still a family. It’s all because Beth is great. She knows it’s what’s best for the kids, and she’s a great human being.”
