Sen. Graham Talks National Security and Taiwan

During an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) admitted his limited knowledge about national security issues. “You see, I’m not a politician, at least not a career one, and I don’t really communicate like a typical politician does. I was just trying to be straightforward,” he said. He emphasized that while China is undoubtedly a military and economic threat to the U.S., people might not be overly familiar with Taiwan. “Security matters are important, but honestly, I doubt that many people could even locate Taiwan on a map,” he remarked, adding that voters have various other concerns beyond Taiwan.

Host Sean Hannity pointed out how the topic of Taiwan has been increasingly discussed. Graham replied, “You know, I think it’s a valid concern, and I might have fumbled the question about Taiwan last night. But I really am not a career politician. I’m just speaking plainly. It all seems somewhat foreign to me. I chatted with folks across the state today, and many told me they appreciated my honesty. I mentioned that, yes, China is a military and economic issue, but in South Carolina, people seem more focused on issues like fairness in women’s sports,” he continued. “There are pressing concerns over the Second Amendment and illegal immigration as well.”

He acknowledged the significance of national security, mentioning the need for strong relations with Israel and addressing the Iran situation. However, he expressed, “My primary focus remains on the everyday challenges that people in South Carolina face while trying to earn a living.”

Hannity concluded the segment by suggesting that it was reasonable for people to critique Graham about his stance on this topic.
