DARPA confirms ownership of mysterious vessel after photos emerge on Reddit

Reports say the Bureau of Defense Advanced Research Projects is forced to admit that the mysterious ship discovered by a Washington state leader is from one of the special programs.

DARPA has been confirmed with outlet War zone The boat was a new “undenied surface container” (USV) designed to be operated for long sea voyages on human ships.

The vessel, named “USX-1 Defiant,” is a product of the Secret Agency's No Manning Required Ship (NOMARS) program and could soon become an operational part of the Navy's fleet, the outlet reported.

The 240 metric tonne vessel, developed by Serco Inc., will soon undergo massive underwater testing before sailing on a months-long crewless testing journey at sea this spring.

DARPA has charged Defiant as a low-cost, low-maintenance, multi-purpose vessel that will allow you to navigate “drone boats with missiles in the future.” War zone reported. The innovative modular design allows medium-sized vessels to house angled missile launch systems and act as transport, DARPA told the outlet.

At the time, the agency announced that Defiant would feature hybrid power generation, a podded propulsion and a large battery.

DARPA said the nomall ships are built according to the philosophy of “graceful degradation”. This explains the possibility that individual equipment may fail at sea by having enough redundancy to maintain a 15 knot pace for a one-year journey into the ship's system.

Neither DARPA nor Serco responded to requests to post comments.
