Darren Mougey reveals stance for major decisions on Jets trio

Jets general manager Darren Mowgie said Monday that he expects the team to get a fifth-year option from Source Gardner, Garrett Wilson and Jermaine Johnson.

The Jets selected all three players in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. This means the Jets will have to decide whether to get options for the 2026 season. Jets will have to officially select the option until May 1st.

“We have time to make that decision,” Moogie said. “But I expect those players to exercise these fifth year options.”

Gardner’s options mean receiving a $20.1 million guaranteed salary in 2026. Wilson guarantees a salary of $16.8 million. Johnson guarantees $13.4 million.

The hope is that the Jets will discuss with Gardner and Wilson about the long-term expansion. Johnson, who tore Achilles in the second week last year, will need to show more this season to get an extension.

Mougey said extension talks will take place after this week’s NFL Draft.

“I’m going to pass the draft,” Moogie said. “But from a contract and extension perspective for any player, I always keep it at home, and what we do is keep those deals in those discussions.”
