A 20-year-old Dartmouth College student was found dead in the Connecticut River over the weekend, and police are investigating whether he was being bullied.

Wong Jiang was last seen Saturday night during a social event near the Dartmouth Boathouse on the Connecticut River.
The Delaware man was reported missing the next day and his body was discovered about 65 feet offshore Sunday evening after authorities searched for several hours, Hanover police said.
“There is certainly evidence from conversations with witnesses and people like that that alcohol was involved,” Police Chief Charles Dennis said. WMU.
“Again, that’s all part of our investigation. We received an anonymous email through the university this morning saying that bullying may be involved, so we will definitely be looking into that as well,” Dennis added.
Dartmouth College told the station that the fraternity Chang belonged to was disciplined following an incident last fall.
Jean, a member of Beta Alpha Omega, was one of four sororities suspended at the university for violating community standards. Dartmouth report.
According to the university’s website, the missing students were attending sophomore summer session, a period during which freshmen remain on campus to take part in intensive, more relaxed summer courses.
According to the student newspaper, the 20-year-old student, who will be entering in 2026, served as a project manager at the DALI lab, a research assistant at the Thayer School of Engineering and a mentor to international students.
“Wong was always a great guy. I don’t think I ever saw him without a smile on his face,” said friend Kredian Malignaggi.
“I had just been talking to him and we were making plans to go out for dinner sometime. Of course, I was very upset when I first heard the news. So I met up with some friends around here and we went for a walk and talked about all the great things about Wong, how he jokes and makes people laugh.”
“Wong wholeheartedly embraced the opportunity to pursue his academic and personal passions at Dartmouth,” college dean Scott Brown wrote in an email to the campus. “He was passionately involved in the Dartmouth community.”
Police are investigating Chan’s death but say there are no suspicious circumstances.
WCAX Police in Vermont reported they had received multiple reports that bullying may have been related to Chan’s death.
