The Fairfax County District Attorney’s Office, with backing from George Soros, is proposing a plea deal that would allow two convicted murderers to be released after just five years in prison, according to an announcement made on Monday.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) claimed that the DA’s office orchestrated this five-year plea agreement. They referenced information from the Fairfax County Times, stating that Mardin Anibal Guzmán Vides and Luis Alonzo Solto Portillo killed a man on a Virginia boardwalk in 2024. The victim’s body was later found by local residents in a nearby wooded area.
DHS noted that Guzmán has a troubling history, having been arrested multiple times for various offenses, including assault and theft. He pleaded guilty to a robbery involving a local restaurant and was also charged with attempted serious bodily injury for allegedly attacking someone with a knife, as reported by the Fairfax County Times.
Moreover, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) repeatedly urged Fairfax officials to keep Guzmán in custody, but the county chose to release him.
In a tweet, DHS expressed disbelief about the five-year sentence for murder. They highlighted that both Guzmán and Portillo, who are undocumented immigrants, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder but received a suspended 25-year sentence, leading to the approval of the plea deal by a judge.
It’s worth noting that Guzmán, an illegal immigrant from Honduras, ignored a removal order from 2019, while Portillo entered the U.S. unlawfully from El Salvador on an unknown date. Lauren Biss, the acting DHS Assistant Secretary, criticized the deal, pointing to a troubling pattern of leniency towards serious crimes involving illegal immigrants.
In a related incident, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano had also dropped serious charges against another suspect, Robert Andrew Reed, involved in a bus stop killing, claiming the footage did not substantiate the stabbing allegation.
In a different case that caught attention, Yehudi Saul Chavez Sandoval was accused of rape and serious assault in 2023 but saw those charges reduced to a misdemeanor, resulting in an 11-month sentence. Reports indicate that he allegedly lured a woman to his home before assaulting her.
Concerns over the handling of these cases have been exacerbated by the significant financial influence from George Soros on Descano’s campaign, with over $600,000 reportedly funneled in since 2019. The Fairfax County DA’s office has yet to respond to requests for comment on these developments.
