A Bronx woman bludgeoned her mother to death with a pot, then called 911 and creepily confessed to the brutal murder, officials and shocked family members said.
Skydaja Patterson, 26, was recently released from a mental health facility for allegedly bludgeoning 46-year-old Thelma McLean to death inside NYCHA’s President Adams House apartment in the Bronx at 3:40 a.m. Monday. According to police and sources.
Officials said when authorities were called to the apartment, she told paramedics that she “killed my mother,” and then found MacLean unconscious and unresponsive with injuries to her face and head. It is said that it was discovered.
Police responded to the third-floor unit and found a young woman still clutching a bloody pot, officials said.
Officials say she admitted that she used a kitchen utensil to hit her mother in the back of the head, causing her to lose consciousness.
The elderly woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The daughter was taken into custody but was not charged with any crimes by late afternoon, police said.
MacLean’s goddaughter Danaeya Reynolds, 26, told the Post that her godmother had sent her a text message shortly before the brutal murder and said she was scared of Sky Daja, who had just been released from a psychiatric ward. .
“She was in the psychiatric ward from February until last week,” Reynolds said. “She started hearing voices and she started speaking in a male voice last night. She said her godmother was scared. Jamila said Skydaja was the voice in her head telling her that. He said he was scared because of it. [my godmother] It was dangerous.
“When I got here and looked inside, I saw blood on the couch,” she added. “They said it was too late to resuscitate her.
“When I opened the door, I saw blood.”
Reynolds added that Patterson’s health had been declining since losing her baby boy in August.
“She never properly recovered from it,” the goddaughter recalled. “She just wanted to get over it and go out and hope everything would be okay, and she just moved on like that. I was worried about breaking up.”
Reynolds said her condition worsened over the last month, which is when she allegedly attacked her mother recently.
“That’s when I used a knife,” she said. “Demons, voices in her head were telling her, ‘Your mother is out to get you, your mother is evil, be careful of her!’
“She called the police herself. She spent two weeks in a psychiatric ward but came out last Tuesday.”
Law enforcement officials said Patterson also had a previous “domestic incident report” in October 2022 that identified his mother as the victim.
MacLean had three daughters, but only two, including Patterson, lived with her, her family said.
The other daughter showed up at the apartment Monday afternoon, visibly distraught.
“Jada! My mom!” the woman yelled, punching the closed door. “Her sister is going to kill me! She killed her with a frying pan last night. I need an inhaler, it’s inside! I can’t breathe, damn it, get it inside!”
Neighbor Rosa Medina, 79, who has lived across the hall for the past 14 years, said the family had been “very quiet.”
“[Her] The other daughter says her sister killed her mother with a frying pan,” Medina said. “She did this last night. She’s very sad. She was a very nice woman.”
