Tragic Deaths of Former San Francisco Police Officials

In a heartbreaking incident, a former San Francisco deputy police chief and her daughter were found dead, believed to be victims of a murder-suicide by her husband, a retired police sergeant, as reported by the Marin County Sheriff’s Office.

The deceased have been identified as Ann Mannix, 65, a former SWAT commander, her 24-year-old daughter Katie, and her husband, 68-year-old retired Sgt. Kevin Mannix.

According to Miguel Almaguer, the Marin County Sheriff’s public information officer, the initial findings suggest a suspected double murder-suicide involving three people, specifically naming Kevin Mannix as the alleged shooter. He mentioned he couldn’t disclose further details regarding the situation inside their home.

Deputies were called to the family’s residence in Mill Valley around 5 p.m. on Sunday. Reports indicate that another household member managed to escape safely and make the call. Upon entering the home, deputies discovered all three family members deceased.

Autopsies for the victims were scheduled for Tuesday, aiming to provide more clarity on the tragic events that unfolded.

Louis Wong, president of the San Francisco Police Officers Association, expressed his sorrow and disbelief, stating, “It is with profound sadness… that we address the devastating news. The tragic loss… has left our entire SFPD family reeling.” He also acknowledged the complex emotions and questions surrounding such a loss, suggesting there are no simple explanations.

Ann Mannix made history as the first woman to lead the SWAT team, according to Wong. She was a strong advocate for youth sports in her community and served on the board for the city’s Police Activities League. A former colleague, Lou Barberini, noted her talents and competence, remembering her fondly as a skilled athlete and well-respected officer.

The circumstances of this tragedy highlight the difficult and often unknown struggles that many individuals face, leaving the community grappling with grief and confusion.
