Tragic Shooting at Rhode Island Hockey Arena
The daughter of shooter Robert Dorgan has claimed that the violent incident at the ice hockey arena was motivated by revenge against his family. She expressed her worries that her sons could have been caught up in the chaos of her father’s rampage.
“I want people to understand that this is one man’s revenge against his family,” Amanda Wallace-Hubbard stated. “We were targeted. This was very specific. It wasn’t random,” she told WPRI.
Dorgan, armed with a Glock 10mm and a SIG Sauer P226, unleashed a horrific attack during a high school hockey game at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena in Rhode Island, resulting in the deaths of his adult son, Aidan, and ex-wife, Rhonda.
A good Samaritan intervened, stopping Dorgan before he could cause further harm. Wallace-Hubbard, from a different relationship, feared her family would be the next victims if not for this brave individual.
“I was terrified that my sons would be next until that person saved us,” she recalled. “I can’t thank him enough. My sons and I owe him our lives.”
Bystander Michael Black described hearing noises, like balloons popping, before springing into action. He mentioned, “I just grabbed it and went to get the gun,” but his hand became trapped, stopping Dorgan from firing again.
Colin, Dorgan’s son, was at the rink during the turmoil. Following the incident, Dorgan’s social media account revealed hateful posts, including one threatening to “go violent.” He criticized an X user for misgendering transgender Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride, writing, “Keep bashing us, but don’t wonder why we become berserks.”
Leading up to the tragedy, Dorgan had been involved in a contentious divorce. Rhonda Dorgan filed for divorce in 2020, initially citing reasons like “gender reassignment surgery, narcissism, and personality disorder traits,” but later changed her claims to “irreconcilable differences.” They had been married nearly 30 years.
Former colleagues described Dorgan as having a bad temper and noted that he sometimes exhibited mixed feelings about their transition—occasionally proud, yet embarrassed at other times.
Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Gonsalves said that Rhonda Dorgan’s parents and a family friend were seriously injured in the incident.
The shooting took place during a senior night event, and Pawtucket Mayor Don Grebien characterized the scene as one of “violence and fear.” Authorities are currently reviewing surveillance footage and have interviewed over 1,000 witnesses.
This event occurred just days after another shooting in Canada, where a transgender gunman killed a teacher and five students at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.
