In the latest edition of “Davante Adams Isn’t Traded,” the Raiders’ star receiver made it clear he wants to be in Las Vegas.
“If I wanted to leave, I’d be gone by now,” Adams said Sunday. According to The Athletic. “This is where I want to be.”
Adams had been floated as a potential trade candidate since last offseason due to all the changes and turmoil involving the Raiders.
Las Vegas moved on from close friend quarterback Derek Carr last offseason, and the Raiders fired coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler during the season.
The Jets tried to sign Adams, Aaron Rodgers’ former No. 1 receiver in Green Bay, last season, but the Raiders rejected the effort.
The Jets and other teams in need of receivers can only hope that Adams decides to leave in the near future, but Adams has made it clear he wants to give the new system a chance.
The Raiders hired Antonio Pierce, who finished the season on an interim tag, as coach, and the Raiders hired former Chargers general manager Tom Telesco in the same position.
Telesco essentially shut down trade rumors at the NFL Combine, which is notable since it’s the NFL’s last big event before next week’s NFL Draft.
“He’s a Raider,” Telesco said he tells teams who inquire about Adams.
Adams is happy the Raiders are letting Pierce take the reins of the franchise.
“He is already contributing to the team’s morale,” Adams said, according to The Athletic. “That’s what we were all looking for. Being able to continue to have the same mindset that we had. That’s our guy. We’ve got to work now. … It’s It’s about what we go out and do.”
Adams is optimistic that the Raiders still offer him a chance to win, even though on paper other teams like the Jets seem closer to that ring.
“It’s clear what we want to do, but we have a lot of work to do before we can talk about making it happen,” Adams said, according to the outlet.
