Jets fans won't have to wait long for Davante Adams' debut.
Adams is scheduled to play against the Steelers on Sunday – just six days after being acquired in a trade with the Raiders, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich has confirmed.
“I think so too,” Ulbrich said.
It's a dual issue of Adams gaining speed in the playbook and healing the hamstring injury that caused him to miss the past three games.
He was scheduled to fully participate in Tuesday's walkthrough, which was closed to the media.
“It's a challenge for (play-caller) Todd Downing and the offensive staff to get him up to speed as quickly as possible,” Urbich said.
“Fortunately, the offense is well known. It's a system he's been a part of for years. I don't expect that to be a big barrier to him getting involved.”
Downing is calling plays within the framework of an offense designed by coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who called plays when Ulbrich replaced the fired Robert Saleh last week. disqualified.
Hackett served as the Packers' offensive coordinator for three years, working with Aaron Rodgers and Adams.
Ulbrich joked that he played against Rodgers and Adams “many times.”
“Their connection and the chemistry between them is so unique,” Ulbrich said. “They spent a lot of time together and they're both guys with high soccer IQs.”
Adams wears his traditional No. 17 jersey after rookie Malachi Coley switched to No. 14.
Garrett Wilson wore No. 17 for two seasons, but switched to No. 5 in the offseason.
