Dave Portnoy described Bill Belichick’s current circumstances as “shocking,” remarking that it feels like we’re living in a “strange world.”
During an appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show,” the Barstool Sports founder expressed his astonishment at the fallout from Belichick’s uncomfortable interview on “CBS Sunday Morning.” The discussion was notably clouded by 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson’s hesitant responses to questions about their relationship’s beginnings.
Since that interview aired, Hudson’s role has come under scrutiny, placing well-known coaches under a spotlight like never before.
“It’s an interesting contrast,” Portnoy noted. “Here’s a guy who typically shuns the media, yet now he’s deeply intertwined with a 24-year-old. It’s eye-opening for someone like me,” he added during his commentary.
Hudson defended herself against the backlash following the interview by sharing an angry email from Belichick, sent on April 10th, concerning media coverage around his new book, *The Art of Winning*.
On Wednesday, Belichick released a statement through the University of North Carolina, where he became head coach in December.
The statement claimed that there was “selective editing” meant to promote a “false story” about Hudson, defending the interruptions seen in the interview.
However, Portnoy was somewhat skeptical, suggesting that it remains uncertain what effect the statement might actually have on Hudson. “I think after Bill Belichick’s involvement, there’s a very low chance he wrote it himself. He usually doesn’t care much about public perception. So, I’d wager that Jordon penned it,” he remarked.
Later, he emphasized, during a chat with Kelly and on Barstool’s “Nameless Show” podcast, that he believes Hudson is the one in charge. Yet, when pressed on whether it seemed clear she was “crazy,” he simply replied, “No.”
CBS News also rebutted Belichick’s assertion about only focusing on topics related to his book, stating, “When I agreed to speak with Mr. Belichick, it was for extensive interviews. There were no prerequisites or restrictions discussed before the conversation, which was confirmed multiple times with his publisher after the interview was conducted.”
At one point, Portnoy defended CBS, referencing Hudson’s quote in the interview, describing her as Belichick’s “muse.”
