Dave Roberts asks Don Mattingly to serve as an All-Star coach.

In 2015, Dave Roberts took over as manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers from Don Mattingly. Fast forward a little over ten years, and Roberts is inviting Mattingly to come back as the honorary coach for the 2026 All-Star Game.

Major League Baseball shared the news about the coaching lineup for this year’s Midsummer Classic, set to take place in Philadelphia.

A statement confirmed, “Dave Roberts, the National League manager from the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, has invited St. Louis Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol and interim manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, Don Mattingly, to join the Dodgers coaching staff as honorary National League coaches.”

Currently, Mattingly is the interim manager for the Phillies, but his journey in management began in Los Angeles.

He managed the Dodgers from 2011 to 2015, during some tough times for the team. The Dodgers faced financial struggles due to owner Frank McCourt’s messy divorce, yet Mattingly, with stars like Matt Kemp and Clayton Kershaw, managed to guide them to a winning season. He also made history as the first manager to lead the franchise to three straight playoff appearances before Roberts stepped in.

Now in his 11th season, Roberts aims to secure a third consecutive World Series title for the Dodgers. Over his tenure, he has already won three World Series and led the team to five National League championships.

This upcoming All-Star Game will see a familiar face as well, with Shohei Ohtani being named the National League’s designated hitter. Other Dodgers like Andy Pages, Will Smith, and Max Muncy are also potential players in the game.
