David Charvet Exits Hollywood for Family and Building Homes

Nearly two decades ago, David Charvet chose to leave Hollywood behind, and it seems he’s not looking back. Known for his roles on “Baywatch” and “Melrose Place,” he made a significant career switch to construction. In 2008, Charvet co-founded the Jones Builders Group, where he focuses on creating luxury homes predominantly in the Los Angeles area.

In a recent conversation, the former heartthrob shared his thoughts, noting, “It was a way to step away from Hollywood while still engaging my creativity. Plus, it ensured I could be home every morning and night to raise my kids.” He has two children, now 18 and 17, whom he wanted to be present for as they grew up.

“I won’t pretend I don’t miss fame,” the 53-year-old reflected. “We worked hard, and honestly, the workload made family life difficult. I admire actors who can strike a balance.” When he became a father, particularly to his now-teenage children, Charvet realized acting had to take a back seat. He made a promise to his then-wife, Brooke Burke, to be more present in their lives.

Charvet emphasized that as more films shifted production outside of Los Angeles, he wanted practical solutions for his family’s needs. “Being pragmatic was my goal when the kids arrived,” he explained. “I told Brooke I would be that guy.” After seven years of marriage, he and Burke divorced in 2018, finalizing everything in 2020.

Since stepping into his new career, Charvet has been fully engaged. His companies are now partnering with Fitness Studio Burn LA, run by Maria Chase, and his projects are visible throughout Los Angeles. Burn LA operates three locations, with plans to expand into Miami and New York City.

“My learning curve has been incredible,” he said. “We have to protect and nurture this new venture daily while figuring out how to grow without losing our core values.” It’s clear he’s passionate about his current path.

Looking back, Charvet admits he misses the camaraderie of working on set. “I had amazing friendships with my crew, real families,” he shared. Yet he holds no regrets about his decision, stating, “What I’ve experienced with my kids over the last 17 years has truly made me a better man.” He’s developed real connections, treat people with kindness, and adopted a more modest outlook on life.

Interestingly, Charvet has previously discussed how he left the spotlight to prioritize fatherhood. He had spent five years touring in 42 countries for his music before making the shift. “I didn’t want to be away from home for my kids,” he said. “I just wanted to be a good dad, present each day.” Although he mourned his lengthy career at first, he now embraces his roles as a father and a builder, feeling fulfilled in service to others rather than chasing fame.
