David Foster's daughters reveal life insights from their Nashville store

Insights from David Foster’s Daughters

Erin and Sarah Foster, daughters of music producer David Foster, have always known that success doesn’t just come from family fame. In a recent chat at the grand opening of their fashion brand, Favorite Daughter, in Nashville, they discussed valuable lessons from their famous father.

“We weren’t raised with the idea that there was easy money waiting for us,” Erin shared. “Instead, we were taught to pursue what we love and hone our skills to sustain ourselves.”

Sarah added, “Dad really emphasized that writing isn’t about waiting for inspiration. It’s about discipline. You write because you have a deadline, not because a moment sparks creativity.”

The Fosters’ father, David, has six children, including Erin, Sarah, and their siblings Alison, Amy, Jordan, and son Renee. The sisters launched Favorite Daughter in 2020, and their new store recently opened in Nashville’s trendy 12 South neighborhood.

“I don’t think we were raised thinking there’s a big pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.”

David described how rewarding it is to witness his daughters following their dreams, noting, “I’m just proud of them doing so well independently. They’re thriving, which is all a parent can hope for.”

Though Erin and Sarah primarily live in Los Angeles, they felt Nashville was a fitting choice for their boutique. “I’ve got this second family here in Nashville, and my husband often comes alone, so I’m eager to explore the area more,” Sarah mentioned. “Nashville is bustling now, with so many great brands emerging. It’s a solid market for us.”

Erin chimed in, explaining that cities influencing culture, such as Nashville, are essential to their business. “Everyone wants to be in Nashville, and we want to be a part of that.”

She noted that because of their store’s establishment, a more permanent move to the city isn’t out of the question. “This could be a great destination for us. With my husband’s job keeping us here often, settling in Nashville seems like a realistic option.”
