David Montgomery injury update: Fantasy implications as Lions RB to miss rest of season with torn MCL

of detroit lions Woking has been plagued with injuries this season, and things got even worse starting in Week 15. Running back David Montgomery suffers knee injury, Ian Rapoport reports he tore his MCL. He is undergoing further tests to determine the severity of the injury, but could miss the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.

Fantasy football influence

Even if the injury is just a sprained MCL, Montgomery will likely be in the fantasy football playoffs. Most leagues had their opening games last weekend, with semifinals in Week 16.

Jahmil Gibbs is the Lions' future, but Montgomery has been a big contributor this season. He has scored in double digits all but two times this season and ranks sixth in fantasy points over the past four weeks. Gibbs ranks third in that group.

If you have Gibbs on your fantasy roster, you're in good hands as he should see a boost in snaps. If Montgomery is available, he will be in contention for a Week 16 fantasy playoff matchup.

If you look at the exemption wire, there aren't that many options. Titans running back Tejay Spears is listed on 44% of Yahoo! Fantasy leagues and the availability of Tony Pollard open the door for some value. Browns running back Jerome Ford is enrolled in 43% of the league, and with Nick Chubb ending the year, he will continue to return to Cleveland to lead the way. Justice Hill is enrolled in 17% of the league and has some boom or bust potential.
