David Njoku Moves On from the Browns
David Njoku is leaving Cleveland behind. The veteran tight end for the Browns shared on Instagram Monday night that he will not be returning to the team after spending his first nine years in the league there.
“Cleveland, I want you to know, I love you. The past nine years have been an incredible journey,” he wrote. He expressed gratitude for the memories made, thanking the Haslams, Andrew Berry, and the entire Browns organization. He also showed appreciation to his teammates, stating, “It’s time to find a new home. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. Cleveland will always be home.”
He wrapped up his message with a heart emoji and the hashtag “ChiefOut.”
Drafted 29th overall by the Browns in 2017, Njoku made considerable contributions over the years. He leaves Cleveland with impressive stats: 34 touchdown catches and 384 receptions, making him second among tight ends in franchise history.
Speculation about Njoku’s future began before the NFL trade deadline in November, but ultimately, no trade occurred.
Looking ahead, the Browns are expected to undergo significant transformations under new head coach Todd Monken, with general manager Andrew Berry indicating that the offense could see “significant changes.”
In recent seasons, Njoku has faced injury challenges, missing a total of 11 games during his last two years with the team. Last season was particularly tough, as he finished with only 33 catches for 293 yards and four touchdowns—the lowest numbers since the 2020 season. Despite these struggles, he was named to the Pro Bowl in 2023.
