David Ortiz gives high praise to Aaron Judge amid his MVP-caliber season: ‘He’s just special’

Aaron Judge’s 2024 season impressed one Hall of Famer.

The New York Yankees slugger is on track to win his second MVP award in three seasons and is also threatening his own AL home run record.

His 62-home run season in 2022 earned him his first MVP award, but somehow he’s outdone himself by that.

As of Friday, his OPS (1.174) was higher than it was that season (1.111) and his batting average was 22 points higher than it was on the year (.311).

David Ortiz may have a Boston Red Sox logo on his monument in Cooperstown, but even Big Puppy can’t help but marvel at what the Yankees captain is doing.

“Oh man, the guy is incredible,” Ortiz told Fox News Digital at Fanatics Fest on Friday. “You’re talking about a guy that has all the tools. And athletically, he’s on another level. He’s just special.”

On Wednesday, Judge hit his 300th career home run, the fastest to date, in 955 games.

The previous record was set by Ralph Kiner in 1,087 games, but Judge achieved the milestone in 132 fewer games, nearly one season.

Judge leads the majors in home runs (43), RBIs (110), on-base percentage (.467), slugging percentage (.707), walks (102) and total bases (301). His batting average of .333 is second in the majors behind Bobby Witt Jr.’s .349.

This is a big turnaround for Judge. On May 2, he was batting just .197 and Yankees fans were clamoring to bench him. Since May 3, he’s batting .388 with a 1.352 OPS.
