David Wright praises Pete Alonso for surpassing him on the Mets' home run list.

David Wright extended his congratulations to Pete Alonso for surpassing him on the Mets’ all-time home run list, jokingly advising him to keep his goals set on Daryl Strawberry’s record.

Alonso made a significant move on that list by hitting two home runs during the Mets’ 13-5 victory over the Rockies at Coors Field on Sunday.

Wright shared his excitement in a video tribute, stating, “A massive congratulations. You’re one of the best power hitters in the game. You’ve easily surpassed me. Now, set your sights on him. Congratulations, my man.”

Alonso’s two home runs now leave him just nine shy of tying the franchise record and ten from holding it outright himself.

The first homer came during the third inning, a two-run shot off Chase Drawland that launched the Mets to a quick 4-0 lead. He followed that up with another two-run blast in the eighth inning, solidifying his position on the home run list.

Reflecting on his achievement, Alonso remarked, “We’re still in the middle of the season, so it’s not really time to relax. Right now, it’s all about winning.” His focus remains on the team, even as he inches closer to historical milestones.

Sunday’s game marked Alonso’s 23rd career game with multiple home runs, placing him ahead of Strawberry in that category for the franchise.

Juan Soto offered his thoughts on Alonso’s hitting prowess, simply calling him a “great hitter.”

With this win, the Mets wrapped up their seven-game West Coast trip with a solid 5-2 record.
