Davis Webb Steps Back from Raiders Coaching Consideration

Davis Webb has decided to withdraw his name from consideration for the head coaching position with the Raiders, a move he made on Thursday.

The ex-Giants quarterback had interviewed earlier this week but opted not to proceed with the candidacy, as reported by multiple sources. It seems this decision is tied to his growing interest and opportunities in his current role as the offensive coordinator.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Webb is being viewed as a leading candidate for the offensive coordinator role with the Broncos. He’s also received inquiries to interview for various OC vacancies throughout the league.

This week, the Giants, Ravens, and Eagles all expressed interest in meeting with Webb for their offensive coordinator positions. Philadelphia has already filled its vacancy by hiring Sean Mannion, but Webb is set to have a virtual interview with the Giants shortly.

In addition to his current position with the Broncos, Webb has interviewed for head coaching roles with the Ravens and Bills. James Palmer, co-host of The Athletic’s “Scoop City” podcast, noted that Webb left a positive impression during his interviews, suggesting he’s seen as a viable candidate, though some believe an additional year under coach Sean Payton could be beneficial.

Webb is recognized for his role in developing Bo Nix, the quarterback for the Broncos, who has spoken highly of Webb’s mentorship. Nix expressed, “He always prepared us very well, especially early on. He’s played that position and knows what it’s like to be in the game.” This reflects Webb’s ability to coach effectively, preparing players for future challenges.
