Dax Shepard says he flirted with Kate Hudson even though he knew she was married at the time. He shared the story on a recent episode of his podcast, “Armchair Expert,” while talking with guests Erin and Sara Foster about how they became friends.
Shepard was dating Hudson in 2007, and co-host Monica Padman noted that he had been taken with the actress long before they got together. He recalled meeting her while playing poker at a friend’s house. Hudson was still married to Chris Robinson.
“I just thought she was so beautiful,” Shepard said, remembering how excited he was that she had come by. He admitted he flirted with her anyway, saying he “gave her everything” he had in reserve.
At the end of the night, he figured he had done what he could and could leave it there: Hudson was married, after all. But after she and Robinson separated, Shepard saw her again at a dinner hosted by their mutual friend Steve Brill. This time, he thought, they might be able to recapture the spark. He said they ended up spending every day together from then on.
Hudson and Shepard later recalled on the podcast that their relationship began after they walked out of Nobu holding hands. Shepard said they had initially been joking with the paparazzi, pretending to be annoyed by the attention. Somehow, he added, the moment turned into them spending more time together. Hudson said she then wanted to have sex with him.
The two dated for a few months and stayed on friendly terms after they split. Shepard later began dating Kristen Bell; they married in 2013 and have two daughters, Lincoln and Delta.
Hudson was engaged to Muse frontman Matthew Bellamy from 2011 to 2014. They share a son, Bingham. Hudson also has a son, Ryder, with Robinson. She is now engaged to Danny Fujikawa, whom she began dating in 2016. They have a daughter, Rani.
