Day care in Massachusetts closed after a convicted child rapist living there was discovered to be an undocumented immigrant.

A daycare in Cape Cod was shut down after it came to light that a convicted child rapist, living illegally in the U.S., resided there with its owner, who was in a relationship with him.

This individual, Andretia Golucas, 36, originally from Brazil, was apprehended by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers in October 2024. He had fled Brazil after being convicted of raping a vulnerable person in 2016, for which he received a sentence of over nine years. The victim was just 13 years old.

A resident, Nunes, contacted police while reporters from Boston 25 were investigating.

“This Brazilian fugitive committed a horrifying crime in his homeland. Instead of facing justice, he made the decision to escape,” noted a spokesperson from ICE Boston, emphasizing their commitment to public safety by targeting serious offenders.

According to reports, Golucas had two children with Nunes and lived in a daycare facility in Hyannis. Interestingly, the state’s license for early education and care at the location had expired back in March.

Worcester County Sheriff Lou Evangelidis expressed shock over the recent revelations, indicating that they point to a broader need for change.

“It’s alarming to think that someone with this history could settle in Massachusetts, especially when he is living in a daycare meant for young children,” he remarked.

The Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care had inspected the daycare several times but claimed not to have found any evidence of Golucas residing there. While they conduct background checks on individuals over 15 who live or frequently visit home daycares, these checks are limited to U.S. information and do not extend internationally.

Nunes reached out to the police while reporters were trying to interview her.

Massachusetts has positioned itself as a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants, which has led to instances where local criminals have been released from custody before federal authorities could intervene.

The White House commented, “Biden’s open border policies have allowed dangerous individuals like this to live openly. Policies from the previous administration would have ensured such predators are removed from our communities.”
