Day’Ron Sharpe’s sprained knee leaves Nets thin at center

The Nets lost Dayron Sharpe to a knee injury on Sunday night, and it's unclear how long the backup center will be out.

Sharp sprained his left knee with just over three minutes left in overtime against Portland on Sunday.

He fell during the collision, clutching his knee and hitting the Barclays Center court in pain.

The third-year pro was eventually helped off the floor and went to the locker room, where he never returned.

He is scheduled to undergo imaging on Monday and will not be traveling with the Nets to play the Cavaliers in Paris on Thursday.

“It's a left knee sprain. He's going to undergo an MRI.” [Monday]'' said Jacques Vaughn. “He will stay here and is not going to travel to Paris with us for now. We will see if he joins us in Paris.”

Sharpe was a recent addition to the game, scoring 11 points and six boards in 16 minutes, 35 seconds.

Leading scorer Cam Thomas, who averaged a team-high 20.7 points, scored just nine points in a meager 17 minutes, 53 seconds.

Now that Lonnie Walker IV is back, his playing time is noteworthy.

Thomas took an elbow to the face in the first half, leaving him bloodied and playing the rest of the game with a bandage over his left eye.

Brooklyn continued to fail to defend its perimeter.

The Nets made 20 of 38 3-pointers, a particularly concerning result considering the Trail Blazers' poor shooting.

Trendon Watford and Harry Giles III are both guaranteed to play for the remainder of the season.

“They're guaranteed. Dinner is on these two,” Vaughan said. “They will be with us.”

Sunday was the deadline for their contracts to be guaranteed.

“I’m officially official,” Giles told the Post. “Sean (Marks) texted me in the morning and said, 'I'm so glad you're on the Net. It's only fair that you come here and say.' … When I came in this morning, I I met Sean again. He hugged me and congratulated me and said he was happy to be here.”

Both players will earn approximately $2 million.

“I know that if you do good things, good things will happen. So when I'm playing, I want to continue to be a good teammate, and when I'm not, when I'm out there, I just do my job and help the team.” Just trying to get a win to help the team. So just that, that mindset, it really didn't make me feel any pressure,” Watford told the Post. “I knew in my head that the date was approaching, but [but] I didn't go to sleep thinking about it too much. ”
