‘Dazed and Confused,’ ‘Boiler Room’ star Nicky Katt dead at 54

Character actor Nikki Katt, known for his roles in “Dazed and Confused,” “Boston Public,” and “Boiler Room,” has passed away. He was 54 years old.

John Sloss, a lawyer for Katt, founder and partner of Sloss Law, confirmed the actor's death with Fox News Digital, but did not provide additional details.

Born in South Dakota on May 11, 1970, Kat began her child's career and made her television debut in 1980's episode of “Fantasy Island.”

Throughout the 80s, Kat appeared on numerous television shows including “Chips,” “Father Murphy,” “Code Red,” “Harvey, Love Bug,” “Voyager Jars,” “Quincy, Me, “V,” “Gang,” “Facts of Life,” “Deer John John,” and “Uncle Back.”

After making her big screen debut with “Underground Ace” in 1981, Kat appeared in “The Gremlins,” “Barbs,” “Martian Goes Home,” and “Sister Acts.”

He landed one of his most famous film roles when he cast him in the classic 1993 adult comedy “Dazed and Confused.” He was a member of the film's ensemble cast, including then-rising stars Ben Affleck, Matthew McConaughey, Rene Zelweger, Parker Posey and Joey Lauren Adams.

In the film, Kat played Clint Bruno, a high school bully.

Linklater and Katt once again collaborated on “Suburbia” in 1996, “Waking Life” in 2001, and “School of Rock” in 2003.

Kat played the hitman in Stephen Soderbergh's 1999 crime film, The Limey. Kat worked with Soderbergh again when he portrayed the unknown actor who played German dictator Adolf Hitler in the 2001 comedy drama Full Front. The film's ensemble cast included Katherine Keener, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts.

Katt and Soderbergh met again in 2013 for the director's biopic television film “Behind the Candelabra.”

In another role in Kat's most notable role, he starred as stockbroker Greg Weinstein alongside Affleck, Vin Diesel and Giovanni Livigi in “The Boiler Room” in the 2000s.

In 2002, Kat appeared in Christopher Nolan's 2002 psychological thriller “Insomnia,” and later played a SWAT team member in the director's 2008 superhero film “The Dark Knight.”

Credits for his other films include roles from “A Time To Kill,” “Batman & Robin,” “The Way of the Gun,” “Sin City,” “Death Proof,” “Snow Angels,” and “The Sitter.”

The late actor also made his mark on a small screen. From 2000 to 2002, Kat played the passionate geology teacher, Harry Senate. He used unorthodox methods to teach troubled students in the first three seasons of the Fox Drama TV series “Boston Public.”

Katt's other television productions included appearances in “Love & War,” “Friends,” “Monk,” “The Guardian,” “Law & Order,” “King of the Hill,” and “ER.”

According to IMDB, Katt made his final on-screen appearance in an episode of the Hulu series “Casuary.”
