DC Bar Association files disciplinary charges against lawyers over 2020 election fraud claims

The Washington, D.C. Bar Association has filed disciplinary charges against three lawyers accused of trying to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election against former President Trump.

The complaint, unsealed Friday, alleges that attorneys Juli Haller, Lawrence Joseph and Brandon Johnson knowingly lied to the court in various lawsuits they filed after the election was certified and seeking a Biden presidency. He is accused of making a statement.

Joseph and his co-advisors filed a federal lawsuit The lawsuit against former Vice President Mike Pence was filed earlier this month in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. He claimed that electors had been called in Arizona, Georgia, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and that Mr. Pence had tried to sway the election in Mr. Trump's favor.

Mr. Haller was involved in the “Kraken” lawsuit brought by Mr. Trump's lawyer Sidney Powell. The lawsuit is the name she gave to an unsuccessful lawsuit aimed at overturning Biden's 2020 victory in the battleground state. She also joined Mr. Johnson in several lawsuits surrounding Mr. Powell.

After working with Powell, Haller represented defendants in the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol. Politico reported.

The charges will be heard by a committee of D.C. attorneys. If they are found to have violated Washington, D.C.'s Rules of Professional Conduct, they could face sanctions and “appropriate discipline.”

This is the latest in a series of lawsuits filed against lawyers who have made baseless claims of election fraud or tried to overturn the 2020 election results.

Trump is being charged in two separate criminal cases over his efforts to remain in power after leaving the White House. One in federal court in Washington, D.C., centers on his actions around January 6, and the other in Georgia, where he was charged with racketeering charges along with 18 others.
