DC police hunt suspect in tech exec’s beating death downtown

Police in Washington, D.C., are searching for a suspect in the murder of Vivek Taneja, 41, of Alexandria, Virginia.

Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers responded to the 1100 block of 15th Street Northwest in downtown Washington, D.C., a 10-minute walk from the White House, at 2 a.m. on February 2 after receiving a report of an assault.

“Officers located an adult male suffering from life-threatening injuries as a result of the assault,” police said in a press release.

Authorities transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead on February 7.

According to WUSA9, the fight took place outside a Greek restaurant, and when authorities arrived they found Taneja lying on the sidewalk.

MPD did not share any further information with Fox News Digital.

Taneja was co-founder and president of Dynamo Technologies, headquartered in Vienna, Virginia.

The company did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital Friday.

Mr. Taneja’s LinkedIn profile also indicates that he holds a Master of Science degree from George Mason University and a Doctorate of Engineering degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC.

MPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact police at 202-727-9099 or submit information anonymously to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by texting 50411.

According to MPD statistics, 274 murders were recorded in the country’s capital in 2023. The last time Washington, D.C. reported a high number of homicides was 26 years ago, in 1997, when the capital’s homicide rate was the fifth highest among large U.S. cities, according to the Washington Post.
