FAFSA Deadline Approaches for Students
Las Vegas – A key deadline is approaching for students planning to attend university this fall.
Applications for FAFSA, which provides federal student aid, need to be submitted by the end of the month. This application is essential for accessing significant financial assistance.
“FAFSA is crucial for securing federal grants, loans, and job searches, along with aid for various state and university programs,” noted Shaan Patel, founder and CEO of a college preparation service.
You can fill out the entire application online.
“Be sure to gather all necessary documents to maximize your financial aid for this fall,” Patel added.
Dr. Lea Watson, known as the Scholarship Physician and CEO of Scholarship Solutions, cautions that neglecting FAFSA could lead to substantial financial losses. She stresses that one should not assume eligibility is out of reach.
“If there’s no FAFSA application on your record, obtaining scholarships and financial aid from the university becomes incredibly challenging,” Watson explained.
Every year, approximately $3 billion in aid goes unclaimed.
“Don’t leave money on the table… it ends up with the government instead of students who could benefit from it for their education,” Watson said.
Filling out FAFSA typically takes only a few hours if you have everything ready. After submission, expect to receive a financial aid award letter in about 2-3 weeks. However, applying sooner rather than later is vital since state and school-specific aid can run out quickly.
Here’s what you’ll need to fill out the FAFSA:
- Social Security number
- Parents’ Social Security number (if you are a dependent)
- Tax returns
- Records of any child support received
- Current bank account balances
- Social Security Card, Driver’s License, and/or Alien Registration Card (for non-citizens)
- Federal income tax returns, W-2 forms, and other financial documents
