Dean Phillips speaks on the timing of Biden’s cancer announcement: ‘I believe it’s not a coincidence’

Dean Phillips on timing of Biden's cancer news: 'I don’t think it’s coincidental'

Former Congressman Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) has suggested in a recent interview that the timing of President Biden’s cancer diagnosis was deliberate, possibly linked to ongoing scrutiny regarding his presidency. Phillips, who contested Biden for the Democratic nomination last year, stated, “I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this was announced this week,” during a conversation with the New York Times published on Monday.

He added, “Otherwise it’s difficult to sign a contract,” implying that the announcement might have been strategically timed.

This commentary comes alongside reports from CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, indicating that Biden’s close associates had been attempting to shield the public from signs of his cognitive decline toward the end of his presidency.

During his campaign, Phillips encountered pushback from fellow Democrats after voicing concerns about Biden’s age, suggesting that some actions taken by Trump’s supporters might be more troubling than what he labeled as “corruption.” “Donald Trump is not shy about his corruption,” he remarked. “What’s really bothering me is that what people around Joe Biden were revealing was in a way worse.”

Over the weekend, Biden’s office disclosed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer, a revelation that raised questions about the cancer’s prior lack of detection, though it garnered bipartisan support.
