DeAndre Hopkins trade: Instant grades for Chiefs and Titans

The NFL trade deadline is rapidly approaching, and ahead of the Nov. 5 deadline, the Kansas City Chiefs made a move to replenish their rapidly depleting wide receiver room.

Hopkins, 32, was traded to Kansas City in 2025 for a conditional fourth-round pick, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The Chiefs were in desperate need of help at receiver after losing WR Laci Rice to a knee injury, and they've got a Super Bowl-ready player in Hopkins.

The performance of both sides in the DeAndre Hopkins trade is as follows:

Kansas City Chiefs: A

We know that Hopkins is old and has countless injuries. But I think his skill set is exactly what the Chiefs need and what the offense needs at this point in the season. With so many players other than Travis Kelce truly lacking in the ability to create separation, why not get someone who can win contests for catches on the outside? Hopkins can still create separation in spurts and win as an outside receiver on a team that doesn't have the most explosive offense downfield and has a lot of death by crossers, and Hopkins could be the guy who goes for the bucket on third down. There is a gender.

Tennessee Titans: B-

The Titans are clearly in rebuilding mode. They added veteran skill position talent in the offseason, but without that talent at quarterback or on the offensive line, the team fell apart and is currently playing multiple QBs. The Titans had to pay a portion of Hopkins' salary in this deal, but it also means they are rebuilding at the moment. After this trade, they now have seven draft picks, and that's not even counting the Ernest Jones IV trade.

But I like the terms Tennessee got in this trade. Getting playing time and Super Bowl qualification (both things the Chiefs are very likely to do) will help elevate the pickup to the fourth round, a smart business.

Expect more trades to come out of Tennessee.
