Death toll grows to 33 as destructive storms and violent tornadoes obliterate the South and Midwest

At least 33 people have been killed in the powerful cross-country storm system that has destroyed much of the Midwest and Southeast since Friday, officials said.

As bad weather and raging tornadoes erase homes, businesses and schools, death tolls continue to rise, leaving hundreds of thousands without power, and a monster storm is expected to slam parts of the East Coast on Sunday.

“Housings and businesses have been destroyed, the whole community is powerless, and the road to recovery is not easy,” Gov. Mike Kehoe said. He said in a statement.

Arkansas officials reported three weather-dependent deaths in independent counties, with 32 people injured in eight counties. According to the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.

Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she is on the ground where around 50 National Guard members and 40 state police are providing assistance, adding that it could take weeks and even months in her state.
