When is the Right Time to Decorate for Christmas?
As the holiday season approaches, many people in the U.S. are starting to discuss when it’s best to put up their Christmas trees.
Balsam Hill, a California-based artificial tree company, has released suggestions regarding the ideal timing for decorating. Their perspective seems to align with what many families practice—decorating right after Thanksgiving often marks the start of the Christmas festivities.
The company indicates that, typically, the most popular time to set up a tree is from late November into the early days of December. However, some folks might prefer beginning as early as mid-November to get a jump on the holiday spirit.
Interestingly, they also propose the idea of incorporating a Christmas tree into Thanksgiving decorations to blend the two celebrations. But, for those opting for live trees, they recommend waiting until the first week of December.
Alison Cheperdak, who heads Elevate Etiquette in Washington, D.C., noted that taking time to enjoy each holiday is important. She pointed out that if someone is hosting Thanksgiving, waiting to set up Christmas décor could help them fully enjoy the holiday.
For those not hosting or traveling, Cheperdak remarked that it’s perfectly fine to start decorating early. Just maybe hold off on the lights and outdoor decorations until after Thanksgiving.
Social media is buzzing with opinions on this topic. One user humorously lamented, “My wife is making me put up a Christmas tree and it’s only November 1st.” Another commented, “I just left my tree up from last year because I loved it so much.”
But not everyone feels it’s time yet. One person declared, “It’s too early for Christmas.” Others joked about how if you don’t take down your tree, no one will know when you actually put it up.
The general sentiment seems to vary widely, with some eager to embrace the season as soon as they can, while others advocate for each holiday to stand on its own. It’s a bit of a balancing act, really, as everyone finds their own rhythm in this festive time of year.
