A Michigan World War II veteran celebrated his 100th birthday Saturday surrounded by family and friends.
Robert Weber, originally from Illinois, moved with his wife to Holland City near Lake Michigan. Freedom Village Senior Community, WOODTV Reported.
Though he lives a quiet life in a retirement home, his combat experience in World War II has garnered national attention as he reaches the milestone of turning 100.
According to local media, he was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 20 and deployed to France as part of the 54th Armored Infantry Battalion, 10th Armored Division.
Weber served in Europe for 32 months, including the Battle of the Bulge, the last major German offensive on the Western Front. victory As the Allied forces continued to advance towards Berlin,
He received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star and France's Legion of Honor.
The 100-year-old also takes pride in being a “father, grandfather, great-grandfather and lifelong learner.” [and] “He's an adventurer,” WOODTV reported.
Weber said the secret to a long life was to be curious, eat rhubarb and enjoy life.
“If you live each day to the fullest and make the most of each day, 100 years will come before you know it,” he told the media.
