Rhode Island city bus passengers got a little more than they bargained for on Monday, when a deer crashed through the driver’s windshield while the driver was calmly traveling along the route, adding an extra passenger to the mix.
The incident, which happened just after 3pm on Monday, was captured on video by the Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority (RIPTA), and shows the deer diving straight off the road and into the windshield of the bus.
“On Monday, a deer was unexpectedly struck by a RIPTA bus traveling on Warwick Avenue in the city of Warwick,” RIPTA Interim CEO Christopher Durand said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
Police said there were six passengers on the bus, two of whom were treated at a local hospital for injuries caused by the shattered windshield.

Despite having an unwanted passenger, the driver was able to remain calm and continue driving until he was able to safely pull over to the shoulder of the road and assess the situation, the video shows.

According to local station WPRI, the deer did not survive the collision and died from its injuries.

Durand praised the bus driver for his quick action.
