Defense Secretary Austin moved to critical care unit for apparent bladder issue

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin was transferred to the critical care unit at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Sunday night after being taken to the hospital earlier in the day.

Austin was taken to the hospital by security guards on Sunday with symptoms suggestive of an emergency bladder problem, according to a statement from his doctor released by the Pentagon.

After a series of tests and evaluations, Austin was admitted to the critical care unit on Sunday night for supportive care and close monitoring, the statement added.

“At this time, it is unclear how long Secretary Austin will remain in the hospital,” the statement said. “The current bladder issue is not expected to affect his expected full recovery. His cancer prognosis remains favorable. Updates on the Secretary’s condition will be provided as soon as possible. Sho.”
