Defense Secretary Hegseth Shares Positive Update for Army Paratroopers

Fort Bragg Pay Increase Announcement

Fort Bragg, North Carolina – The Pentagon has announced an increase in jump pay for U.S. air troops, with Defense Secretary Pete Hegses visiting Fort Bragg on Thursday.

This “Jump Pay” increase includes an additional $200 per month for all units with “Jump Status”. They’ll also get a temporary bonus of $150 per month for their Jump Masters, according to a Pentagon official. This marked Hegses’ first visit to the renowned Army base since it was renamed in March, where he acknowledged the 82nd Airborne Division during a ceremony.

“I cannot express enough gratitude for your hard work,” Hegses said to the 82nd Airborne Regiment. “You continuously demonstrate your dedication, proving you’re prepared for the significant challenges ahead.”

Hegses’ address came at the conclusion of a ceremony honoring the division known as the “National American” regiment. Despite the blistering heat and humidity, they marched proudly in front of Hegses, military officials, and a sizable audience.

Earlier in 2023, the installation was renamed from “Fort Bragg” to “Fort Liberty” under former President Joe Biden. Hegses later reinstated the original name as a tribute to a World War II hero, Private First Class Roland L. Bragg.

Previously, parachute pay was set at $150 per month for standard jumpers and $225 for those performing high-altitude, low-opening (HALO) jumps. This compensation aims to reflect the additional risks associated with parachuting.

Furthermore, regular service members benefitted from a 4.5% salary increase in January, while a 10% increase for newer enlistees took effect on April 1st.

As he concluded his remarks, Hegses conveyed the appreciation of the nation, saying, “On behalf of the President and the Secretary of Defense, I wish you all, Godspeed, and express our gratitude for your service.”
