Defense Secretary Pete Hegses has updated the Department of Defense's efforts to reduce wasteful spending.

In a video posted on X on Thursday, Hegseth announced the end of more than $580 million in Department of Defense (DOD) contracts and grants that do not match taxpayer dollar priorities.
The initial deletion was HR software intended to take a year to complete and would have cost $36 million. Instead, the DOD costs $280 million and takes eight years to complete.
“They aren't making good use of taxpayer dollars. Ultimately, they're the ones who are funding us, and we have transparency in you.
The Secretary of Defense also announced that the department will cut $30 million in agreements with Gartner and McKinsey Consulting Services due to unused licenses and technology-related costs.
Hegseth has spoken out about his support for Elon Musk's Government Efficiency (DOGE) and is an effort to discover cost savings across the government.
The Department of Defense, which is home to the Department of Defense, oversees the largest budget for federal agencies. Last year, Congress granted $825 billion to the department. Over 2 million DOD employees.
