Defense swarmed Deshaun Watson all day

Ratings for Sunday's Giants-Browns game, a 21-15 win:

attack

Can you split this into two grades, an early and late one?

Three of the first four attempts went for touchdowns, and Daniel Jones (24-of-34, 236 yards, two touchdowns, 109.4 completion percentage) was distributing passes like a point guard.

Looking for Malik Neighbors (8-78, 2 TD) is always a smart move.

The kid could fly and was quick to knock down a deflected ball to prevent a turnover.

After half-time, things were completely deadlocked.

Another terrible fumble by Devin Singletary (16-65).

TE Theo Johnson (1-13) and Daniel Bellinger (1-17) finally scored.

LT Andrew Thomas didn't let Myles Garrett (1 tackle, 3 QB hits) ruin the game, but that's no easy task.

The line play was a little off in pass protection in the second half.

defense

This was a grown-up performance, and Deshaun Watson had no idea what hit him.

There were eight sacks, involving nine different players.

Dexter Lawrence was so dominant that he got an early sack and then chased down Watson for a second sack in the second quarter, drawing an intentional grounding penalty.

Watson (21 of 37 for 196 yards and two touchdowns) was booed by the home crowd.

Brian Burns made his first impact with his new team with a strip sack.

The Browns' ground game (69 yards) was fruitless. CB Deonte Banks lost a step to Amari Cooper on the first snap and allowed a 21-yard touchdown.

Kudos to rookie Elijah Chatman for his first NFL sack.

Azeez Ojulari had a big fumble recovery midway through the fourth quarter and also recorded a sack and two quarterback hits.

Rating: A

Special teams

Eric Gray fumbled the opening kickoff, which is an unacceptable way to start a game.

Bryce Ford Wheaton made a rushing tackle on James Proche on Jamie Gillan's 57-yard punt, limiting the return to just three yards.

Gillan's net average was 51.6 yards, but he overhit a 67-yard pass in the fourth quarter that bounced into the end zone.

New kicker Greg Joseph had a chance to seal the game, but missed a 48-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Rating: B minus

Coaching

Brian Daboll made an incredibly brave move to attack from his own 43-yard line while trailing 7-0 midway through the first quarter, and his boldness paid off.

Daboll's play calling in the first half was cleverly varied and you could tell he had a feel for it.

Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen stepped up the pressure on Watson, no doubt unsettling the veteran quarterback.
