Deion Sanders Enjoys Unique Experience Watching Son in NFL Debut
Rookie quarterback Deion Sanders led the Browns to a 24-10 win against the Raiders during his first NFL start. On Sunday, he had the chance to enjoy a game in a different light—watching his son, Shedeur, without the responsibilities of coaching.
Dion had coached Shedeur at Jackson State University and at the University of Colorado, so this moment in Las Vegas felt particularly special for him. It was an experience steeped in pride, witnessing his son’s NFL dreams come to life without being the coach.
“This is the first time I’ve seen him play without me on the sideline,” Dion reflected, expressing how strange it felt to watch without the pressures of coaching. “But it was good and healthy because I was just in straight dad mode. I loved it. I loved being able to see him get his first win.”
Shedeur delivered an impressive performance, throwing for 209 yards and scoring his first NFL touchdown. One standout moment was a remarkable 52-yard throw to Isiah Bond that set up a touchdown run by Quinshon Judkins. Later, he connected with Dylan Sampson for a 66-yard touchdown pass, marking a significant milestone in his debut.
Even with fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel poised to return from a concussion, Shedeur is expected to start again for the Browns when they face the 49ers next Sunday.
After the game, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski praised Shedeur’s growth, noting, “We’re seeing Shedur and Dillon learn a lot about the game and their individual skills. There’s a lot of development happening with Shedur.” This, perhaps, adds a layer of anticipation for what’s next in his career.
