Living without Chedur Sanders is proving to be quite the challenge.
Colorado’s coach, Dion Sanders, has decided to give former quarterback Kaidon Salter another shot for this week’s home game against Wyoming, switching from a backup role just a week prior, as reported.
The Buffaloes (1-2) have experienced more quarterback changes this season than wins.
There were hopes for a smoother transition in Boulder after the departure of two-way standout Chedur and Travis Hunter, who left for the NFL this offseason.
Salter, a senior, came to Colorado after four seasons at Liberty, winning the starting position in a contest against freshman prospect Julian Lewis, who was ranked 12th by ESPN, along with 2024 backup Ryan Staub.
In his debut with the team, Salter performed admirably despite the loss to Georgia Tech, completing all 17 of his passes and throwing for one touchdown and 159 yards. He also rushed for 43 yards and scored another touchdown on 13 carries.
In the following game, all three quarterbacks watched as Colorado achieved a 31-7 victory over Delaware, with Staub completing seven of his ten passes and scoring two touchdowns for 158 yards.
Post-game, Dion made a remark about Staub’s performance, suggesting he might not be the right fit: “Don’t travel with Staub,” he said. “He just can’t flare, man.”
There was talk last week of potentially starting Staub for the Big 12 opener against Houston, which only added to the media buzz surrounding the team.
In his most recent start, Staub struggled, completing 19 of 35 passes for 204 yards, with one touchdown and two picks in a 36-20 loss, which may have caught Dion off guard. Now, he seems to be returning to Salter in hopes of turning the season around.
